Computing

Computing is a possible emphasis that an Instructional Designer can consider.

There are two categories sub-included in this track:

  1. Mobile

  2. Desktop

App/Mobile

No matter how much you would like to ignore it, the mobile phone and tablet have become part of our everyday life. People who were born after the creation and mass distribution of the personal mobile device (sometimes called the iGen) are predisposed to engaging with a mobile device.

Knowing your audience is key to being an effective Instructional Designer. If trends in personal device usage continue to increase as they have, then being able to design for a mobile platform will be a very marketable skill to have.

There are a plethora of options when it comes to building an app. So let the staff at Tech World break it down for you here.

Computer Programing

As exciting and portable as hand-held personal devices can be, they are not always the best solution to learning needs. There are times when having a standard keyboard and mouse are necessary for a better learning experience.

A consideration that the Instructional Designer needs to ask is: "What environment will me learner be applying this new information or new skills?" Sometimes that includes what device the learner will be using.

Either way you look at it, the personal computer is not going away anytime soon and programming on this platform will be marketable for many years to come.
